Collections Manager – Meadows Museum of Art, Centenary College, Shreveport, LA

SUMMARY:

The Collections Manager of the Meadows Museum of Art manages the collection, preservation, and interpretation of visual artworks in the museum’s permanent collection and assists with loaned works while they are in the museum’s care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintaining American Alliance of Museum accreditation standards for collections care.
  • Overseeing the storage conditions, preservation, and conservation of collection items including drawings, paintings, photographs, textiles, and sculptures.
  • Maintaining records for collection items including physical and digital files, outgoing loan agreements, and insurance records.
  • Identifying grant opportunities for collection care.
  • Serve on the museum’s Permanent Collection Committee by providing reports on collection needs and assisting in identifying and proposing acquisitions and de-accessions from the collection.
  • Facilitating the development of regular exhibitions from items in the collection.
  • Managing collections access and information requests from the public, researchers, and institutions.
  • Collaborating with the Art and Visual Culture department to support collections-related student learning opportunities.
  • Developing educational programming and interpretive resources pertaining to collection items.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.

MINIMUM:

  • BA degree, preferably in art, art history, museum studies, or a related field.
  • Previous museum or gallery experience.
  • Excellent record keeping, attention to detail, computer and clerical skills.

PREFERRED:

  • Advanced degree in related field or experience working with multi-disciplinary collections.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of best-practice art and artifact handling/packing/shipping methods.
  • Experience with Past Perfect or other museum collection management software.
  • French, written.
  • Physical ability to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds, to climb stairs and ladders, to stoop, kneel, and crouch preferred.
