Instructor I/Curator of Educational Programs, #6583, 12-month, Non-tenure earning faculty position with a start date of August 7, 2019.

The primary responsibility of the Curator of Education is to design, develop, implement and coordinate CAM’s educational programs. The main focus is interpretation of works in the collection and temporary exhibitions and the development of programs to engage and enrich students, visitors and the community in understanding contemporary art.

The Curator of Education reports to the Deputy Director and serves as supervisor for student interns and volunteers assigned to their responsibilities. 

Responsibilities:

• Designs, develops and implements educational and public programming related to USFCAM collection and exhibitions in partnership with faculty, staff, students and community- based organizations.
• Works closely with curators of exhibitions, the collection, public art and social engagement and other faculty and staff to design, develop, implement and coordinate a full range of educational materials, tours, private and public events and other programming relative to the presentation and interpretation of the collection and temporary exhibitions and events. Programming may take place after normal business hours and on the weekends.
• Works with community-based organizations to collaborate on educational and public programming; collaborates with the curator of public art and social engagement to design, develop, implement and coordinate programming on campus and in the community.
• In collaboration with faculty across campus, provides interdisciplinary teaching sessions and workshops using Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) and other object-based learning techniques.
• Works with student groups to develop greater student body awareness and engagement with museum programming. As a potential advisor of the CAM Club, oversees correct administration of club functions according to the Student Government regulations; works with student members to design, develop, implement and coordinate high quality activities; provides opportunities for education in all facets of museum operations; and coordinates student activities with CAM faculty and staff.
• Coordinates the production of education program materials and works with the Deputy Director on locating and applying for public and private funding.
• Develops interdisciplinary relationships across USF campuses; fosters relationships with community organizations; and stays up to date on museum education initiatives and innovations.

Minimum Qualifications:

• MA or MFA in art, education, museum studies or related field.
• Minimum of two years of experience in museum and/or art education in a museum, gallery and/or higher education setting.
• Knowledge or experience with contemporary art.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Minimum of one year of experience in developing and leading tours, presenting programs, and facilitating object-based learning.
• Broad understanding of art history, including extensive knowledge of contemporary art, and willingness to learn about subjects outside established areas of expertise.
• Knowledge of current practices in museum education.
• Supervisory experience working with volunteers and students in a museum and/or higher education environment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking and demonstrated experience handling program details; strong organizational skills and attention to detail, deadlines and follow through; ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
• Research experience in art and/or education.
• Experience working in a research-oriented academic environment coupled with a commitment to arts education in higher education. Represent the museum to local, national and international partners and constituents. Desire and ability to work in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment with artists, faculty, staff, students, visitors and community partners.
• Demonstrated ability to work across diverse cultures and styles at all levels within and external to the campus community.
• Proven experience in cultivating relationships, collaborations and partnerships with faculty members as well as community-based organizations.
• Expertise in object-based teaching and learning; training in and experience with Visual Thinking Strategies methodology
• Experience researching and developing funding sources and working with donors.
• Engagement with innovation in the museum education field.
