Professor of Sculpture – SCAD, Atlanta Georgia

SCAD seeks a sculpture professor to help lead instruction at the university’s Atlanta location.

Students in the SCAD sculpture program build memorable experiences through public art, like the recent large-scale installation at the Hyatt Atlanta Midtown, and partner with leading brands like Anthropologie, Marvel Studios, and NBCUniversal. In this role, you will fuse sculpture with multiple other disciplines at SCAD, such as industrial design, fashion, film, interior design, and more.

You will work with students shaping wood, concrete, bronze, light, textiles, sustainable and organic matter, digital projections, and other emerging materials on a range of projects, from large public art to movie miniatures. You will teach students to create design solutions and consider strategic business objectives, bolstered by one of the finest sculpture studios in higher education.

The ideal candidate should demonstrate vision, ambition, and interest in collaborating with students and faculty across academic disciplines, display a mastery of traditional and contemporary sculpture methods (including digital creation and output), and have a working knowledge of software like Autodesk Alias, Maya, Rhino 3D, and ZBrush. You should have excellent computer-modeling, sketching, and visualization skills as well as a strong understanding of prototyping and construction.

One of the fastest-growing cities in the U.S., Atlanta provides professionals an ideal environment in which to live, work, and play. Located in the heart of Midtown, SCAD Atlanta is home to a dynamic cultural landscape that includes theaters, museums, fine art galleries, bustling shops, and countless green spaces, including Piedmont Park and Atlanta’s famed BeltLine. The capital of the New South, Atlanta provides both southern charm and the ebb and flow of an alpha city.

Requirements:

  • Terminal degree or its equivalent in sculpture, industrial design, or a related field
  • At least five years of sculpture and/or industrial design experience
  • Mastery of design process to generate memorable solutions and keen eye toward development of sculptural works
