Position Description
The Collections Database Coordinator (CDC) is a key member of the Snite Museum of Art’s Collections Management team and responsible for providing technical advice and maintaining, troubleshooting, and enhancing the Museum’s collections database (EmbARK) by Gallery Systems).
S/he will maintain data standards and controlled vocabularies in EmbARK, and ensure the quality of data, which is integral to Museum business and feeds public-facing collection resources like the Museum and Hesburgh Library’s shared digital collection platform Marble.nd.edu, as well as internal reports.
S/he maintains, implements, and updates policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the database.
S/he manages and undertakes the technical and procedural responsibilities that ensure the utilization of EmbARK’s functionality to advance collections information management, imaging, and collections-related tasks.
The CDC assists in facilitating research by student(s), faculty, and outside researcher(s), through sharing available cataloging information as well as fulfilling image requests.
The CDC will also play a critical role in preparing the museum’s data and collections for moving into the new Raclin Murphy Museum of Art in Summer 2023. This will include creating custom reports to assist with gallery installation.
S/he will assist the Museum Registrar as needed with other related projects.
Full-time, Three-year position, with possible extension
Hiring range: $40,000 to $45,000
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree, or Bachelor’s degree with advanced certification in Information Science, Library Science, Museum Studies, or a related field.
A minimum of three to five years of professional employment in database administration, information science, digital preservation, or related fields; knowledge of art history; expertise with spreadsheets (preferably Excel); experience with EmbARK or TMS art museum database software preferred; knowledge of SQL language. Must be a collaborative team member with excellent communication skills, customer service experience, ability to work independently and with colleagues with different skill sets and from different disciplines.
Must be self-motivated, open-minded, and a fast learner. Able to handle multiple tasks and work under stress while providing quality work and meeting deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in art history or related disciplines preferred.
Preferred candidates have experience working in a museum setting and knowledge of museum operations, policies, and standards and museum-oriented thesauri.
