Purpose:
To serve as a liaison to K–12 schools and families. Responsible for developing and implementing the museum’s multiple visit school programs for regional elementary school children and assisting in the planning and implementation of other educational programs.
Responsibilities:
Program Development – Collaborates with the curator of education to plan and develop education programs, tours, and workshops, including developing supplemental resources for teachers. Creates successful teaching strategies that make connections between works of art and the ideas they embody and diverse disciplines across the curriculum. – 40%
Program Delivery/Instruction – Delivers and teaches multi-visit education programs for elementary and middle schools, leads public tours, collaborates with other educators to deliver teacher, family, and adult programs. Assists with docent training. – 35%
Administration/Evaluation – Administers multi-visit school programs and develops evaluation instruments for participating teachers and students to assess the impact of educational programs. Participates in and presents at conferences to advocate for best practices in museum education. Hires and directs students to assist with teaching related work in the studio, including general maintenance and stocking. 25%
Performs other responsibilities as required.
Requirements:
Two years of successful teaching experience with elementary and middle school age audiences.
Bachelor’s degree in art history or related field, or the equivalent.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, teamwork, and writing skills.
Ability to work well with audiences of all ages, especially children.
Ability to handle several projects simultaneously and meet multiple deadlines.
Strong public speaking and writing ability.
Ability to participate in evening and weekend events.
Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population.
Preferred:
Two years of successful teaching experience with elementary and middle school audiences in a museum setting and virtually.
Master’s degree in museum education, art history, or a related field.
Candidates must have a combination of skills and experience related to teaching and working well with audiences of all ages, especially children. Additionally, qualified candidates will have demonstrated ability to make connections between works of art and the ideas they embody, aligning with current best practices in museum education.
