The Neuberger seeks a collegial and collaborative fundraising leader to serve as its Director of Development. The successful candidate will develop opportunities for individual, corporation, and foundation giving. Reporting to Neuberger’s Director and collaborating closely with Purchase College’s Vice President of Institutional Advancement, the Director will also strategically engage the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Neuberger, Purchase College’s President and Provost, alumni, curatorial leadership, and staff in building a solid fundraising base for the museum, increasing membership, and audience, and expanding its visibility. The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial and agile, with an appreciation of the arts and investment in the Neuberger’s mission. They will be a strategic and proactive team player with the stature and sophistication to engage high-level volunteers, build a culture of philanthropy, and navigate a public higher education environment.
Major gifts, grants, and corporate support
Identify, cultivate, solicit, close, and steward gifts from major donors with a view to maximizing support for the Neuberger Museum of Art
Build and nurture sustaining relationships with supporters that will endure and lead to ever-increasing levels of generosity
Develop strategies and execute outreach to donors and prospects for the purpose of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
Create and deliver dynamic engagement opportunities for supporters in partnership with colleagues and volunteer leaders
Approach fundraising for the Neuberger with the highest level of integrity and assume responsibility for employing best practice approaches to developing major gifts, while adhering to policies and procedures, such as maintaining accurate records and tracking moves
Achieve agreed upon goals, including annual donor face-to-face visits, proposals submitted, dollars raised, and donor communications delivered
Compose all correspondence, including but not limited to stewardship, donor profiles, strategy briefing documents, funding proposals, letters of intent, pledge reminders, etc.
Collaborate with the Neuberger’s Director and the College’s Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations to develop and steward grants and corporate support
Encourage, cultivate, and close planned gifts in support of the Neuberger
Friends of the Neuberger Museum of Art
Serve as primary staff liaison to the Friends of the Neuberger Museum of Art
Steward relationships with volunteer leaders and enable the Friends’ philanthropic leadership
Shape content for board meetings including written materials, remarks, and presentations
Collaborate closely with the Neuberger Director and their assistant on timely and effective board governance activities
Fundraising leadership
In collaboration with the Director, create and implement a dynamic plan for increasing revenue, including strategic goals and planned activities aimed at increasing and diversifying annual philanthropic giving from individuals, corporations, and foundations
Track progress, suggest and enact course corrections, and continually adapt to realize robust results
Develop, deliver, and/or oversee annual giving and fundraising events programs in partnership with colleagues
Serve as an effective spokesperson and representative for the Neuberger
Staff management and campus collaboration
Manage the Neuberger’s Development Coordinator, including strategic oversight of events designed to develop and nurture relationships with donors and prospects
Guide, mentor, and inspire staff and others involved in advancing the Neuberger
Work in partnership with Purchase College’s Institutional Advancement team to realize synergies and leverage capacities
Work closely with the Neuberger Director; Friends of Neuberger; the Purchase College President, Provost, and Vice President of Institutional Advancement; development staff; and other leadership to gain an in-depth understanding of the Neuberger’s current and long-term priorities
Required qualifications and years of related experience:
– Bachelor’s degree.
– Experience working with a non-profit board of directors
– Three years of fundraising experience including major gifts in higher education, a non-profit organization, or relevant work experience in a comparable field or area of work.
