Under general supervision, may help with the coordination of complex installation and de-installation of art exhibitions. May assist with preparatory work on exhibitions, as well as the packing, maintenance, and security of collections. Supervises event operations including the management of all equipment and materials, and functions as the on-site production representative. Instructor of record for Art Internships in the gallery/museum. Teach all relevant museum practices related to equipment types and uses, facilities maintenance and upkeep, handling of artwork, shipping and receiving works of art. Promotion, marketing, event planning and collections care. Hires and oversees work study students for gallery duties. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
The Exhibitions Coordinator Oversees and coordinates activities related to developing, installing, monitoring and maintaining exhibitions, museum spaces, and day to day museum facilities operations. Participates in development of exhibitions concepts, designs plans, and implements exhibits, and collaborates with artists and curators to create high-quality exhibition design and responds to the needs of artwork and audience. Constructs and installs exhibitions for display of artifacts, data, artwork, memorabilia, collections, including site-specific, artist-led, and traveling exhibitions. Builds and maintains pedestals, cabinets, and other exhibition furniture; framing; mounting; installation of technology (video/audio/computers) and solves other elements in relation to exhibits. Participates in long-term exhibit planning and development with museum staff and collaborates on exhibition production schedules, exhibition budgets and timelines. Oversees handling, packing, movement/shipment, and inspection of all art objects, including permanent collections, and photographs and creates condition reports for all objects entering and leaving museums and collections. Oversees the maintenance and repair of tools and equipment; estimates costs, purchases materials, equipment and supplies. Prepares spaces onsite and off for exhibition related programming. Manages consultants, volunteers, and student staff during installation periods and in the handling of the permanent collection. Trains/teaches volunteer and students in proper art handling techniques and in preparation of museum spaces. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Related Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Required Experience:
Two (2) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of building design, construction, and maintenance. Knowledge of carpentry and electrical wiring, A/V, and digital equipment and installation. Knowledge of art handling, conservation and exhibition related materials and standards, and museum best practices. Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control. Ability to produce exhibition layout and design drawings. Attention to detail, ability to create and maintain production schedules, ability to prioritize, supervise and delegate efficiently for both short and long-term projects in a dynamic work environment. Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite.
