Andrew W. Mellon Post-Doctoral Curatorial Fellow
Job Summary
The Andrew W. Mellon Post-Doctoral Curatorial Fellowship at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art offers curatorial training and the opportunity to strengthen the academic role of the Museum’s collections, facilitating the use of original works of art by faculty and students. The Fellow will work as part of a curatorial team and will report to the Curator.
Responsibilities include:
Facilitates object-based class sessions in the Museum’s dedicated art-study
classroom.
Curates and organizes at least one major scholarly exhibition and accompanying publication.
Promotes faculty engagement with the collection through introductory and
ongoing workshops designed to develop curricular opportunities.
Organizes teaching exhibitions with students and faculty across the disciplines,
acknowledging and encouraging new directions in research, scholarship, and
dissemination.
Conceives and implements programming (lectures, symposia) related to
exhibitions and the Museum’s permanent collection.
Assists the Museum’s digitization efforts and digital humanities initiatives.
Supports diversity, equity, and inclusion priorities and projects.
This is a three-year appointment with an expected stat date of July I ,2025. This position offers a competitive salary and benefits, as well as an annual travel and research fund.

Education/Skills Requirements
A recent Ph.D. in art history or a related field stressing visual culture and/or cultural heritage is required. Applicants who will receive their Ph.D. by June 30, 2025, will also be considered.
Broad knowledge of art history and interest in a career in the museum field desired.
Proven ability to work on multiple projects within a collaborative and deadline-driven environment.
Strong research, writing, and public speaking skills are essential.
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
A minimum of one year working in a museum environment and demonstrated experience with object-based learning are required. Experience with digital humanities is preferred.
Standard Work Days and Hours
Administrative hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 to 5:00. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. This is an exempt level position that requires the time commitment to complete the essential duties of the position.
This is an on-site role, and candidates must be able to work in person on the Bowdoin College Campus in Brunswick, Maine.
The salary range for this position is expected to be: $59,000 – $62,000.
