Contemporary Art Museum – College of Design, Art & Performance
The Assistant Curator of Museum Education is a 12-month, Assistant instructor non-tenure earning faculty position. This position reports to the director of the Contemporary Art Museum. This search is expected to be completed early in the Winter/Spring semester with a hire date prior to March 1, 2025.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Designs, develops and implements educational and public programming and tours related to USFCAM collections and exhibitions.
- Works closely with curators of temporary exhibitions to design tours of exhibitions and develop panels and lectures for students and the public.
- Leads photography workshop program for veterans.
- Partners with College of Education faculty on workshop programs focusing on art literacy for local Secondary Art and Social Studies teachers.
- Directs and cultivates interdisciplinary membership in the Faculty Advisory Committee and realizes collaborative projects and programs.
- Serves as Faculty Advisor to CAM Club (student organization).
- Trains graduate students and CAM Club members to give tours of exhibitions and public art collection.
- Works with CAM Curator of Collections and CAM Preparators to assess condition of public art collection on all USF campuses and manages maintenance and repairs.
- Assists with identifying and applying for grants that support museum education.
Minimum Qualifications:
MA or MFA in studio art, art education, art history, museum studies, or related field with a demonstrated record of achievement
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years of experience in higher education teaching or working in a museum.
- Broad knowledge of global contemporary art.
- Knowledgeable of current practices in museum education.
- Able to direct object-based learning and use VTS strategies.
- Capable of researching and developing innovative approaches to museum education related to temporary exhibitions and collections.
- Able to supervise interns and directed study students from multiple disciplines.
- Interested and able to work in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment with artists, faculty, staff, students, visitors and community partners.
- Proven experience cultivating relationships, collaborations and partnerships with faculty and local constituencies.
- Knowledgeable of best practices in managing public art collections including maintenance and educational initiatives.
