Carolina Performing Arts (CPA), the acclaimed presenting arm of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, sparks curiosity, encouraging all members of the community to discover and more fully engage with the world. Since its founding in 2005, CPA has been a pioneer inits field, inspiring audiences with captivating performances, nurturing artistic innovation at the intersection of the performing arts and higher education, and transforming UNC-Chapel Hill’s campus and the greater Research Triangle region into an international arts destination. CPA’s remarkable local, national, and international reputation and its innovative programming have distinguished it as one of the nation’s leading university presenters. High lighting the new “Southern Futures at Carolina Performing Arts” initiative, the 2021–2022 season offers audiences ways to engage with the arts, both in-person and online, with programming that features arts experiences co-created with local communities and focused on racial equity, social justice, and the American South. CPA seeks an experienced Director of Development (DOD) to lead fundraising and development activities while serving as a strategic thought leader and securing significant private support from individuals, corporations, and foundations. In December of this year, UNC-Chapel Hill will conclude its current capital campaign. With new strategic planning underway, the Director will join at a pivotal moment as CPA seeks to define its strategic vision for the future and identify new fundraising priorities. Bringing a sincere appreciation for and understanding of the arts, the DOD will engage a broad range of campus and community supporters, elevate the visibility and expand the reach of CPA, and forge a clear path of transformational growth in the years to come. Reporting to and in partnership with Executive and Artistic Director Alison Friedman, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a superior ability to set and met fundraising goals, as well as significant personal fundraising success at the six-and seven-figure major gift level. Experience in and a passion for the arts and/or experience in a similarly complex higher education environment are highly desired. The successful candidate will have a holistic understanding of fundraising operations, including annual, major, and planned giving, as well as corporate sponsorship, foundation grant-making, and fundraising events.
