Position Summary
Under the general direction of the Director, the Gallery Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the gallery. The position performs independent professional functions using established University and departmental policies and procedures. This is a part-time (25 hours per week), six-month project position with the possibility for extension.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Collaborates with the Director to plan and implement public programs and workshops for academic and external audiences.
Conducts exhibition tours and assists with arts education opportunities.
Coordinates media relations and utilizes social media to promote gallery exhibitions and programs to students, faculty, and the general public.
Supervises with assistance work-study students and graduate assistants in the performance of gallery related duties.
Assists in the conception, design, and installation of six annual exhibitions, liaising with artists, organizations, and vendors.
Prepares documents, correspondence, and reports utilizing Workday and other programs.
Assists in the development and distribution of catalogs and other exhibition materials.
Maintains stewardship with assistance of the permanent collection of fine art and material culture.
Maintains files, images, and mailing lists relating to gallery exhibitions, programming, contacts, eblasts, and content on the University Galleries website.
Other duties as appropriate and needed.
Education and Experience
B.A., M.A. preferred in Art, Art History, Anthropology, Arts Administration, Curatorial Studies, History, Museum Studies, Education, or related field.
Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a gallery or museum setting.
Some experience creating or facilitating K-12 arts education curriculum, workshop, or similar.
Some supervisory experience preferred.
Strong project management skills and attention to detail, with the ability to oversee multiple program elements simultaneously.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
Commitment to advancing equity and a proven ability to work in cross-cultural, collaborative environments.
Competencies/Skills Required
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Some Adobe Creative Suite, Constant Contact, Past Perfect, or similar applications.
DotCMS, Workday preferred
Other Information
Compensation is up to $30 per hour for a fully qualified candidate.
This position is on-site. Most work is indoors, often split between an office setting, exhibit spaces, and storage areas which are often low light and potentially dusty environments. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, and climb ladders.
