The position is responsible for creating design plans, prototypes, 3D models, and fabrication drawings, while understanding current museum standards and materials. The Installation Manager will also co-supervise the art installation and fabrication team throughout projects and installation times.   Day to day co-supervision of museum technicians and carpenters ensuring deadlines are met with the highest quality of work related to exhibitions and special projects. Design and plan multiple aspects of in-house exhibitions, including gallery planning, layouts, floor plans, elevations, and exhibition furniture design, in conjunction with curatorial staff and Chief Curator. Assist curatorial and support staff with design documents to aid visualization of gallery layouts. Use rendering applications and 3D and 2D design software to formulate and execute exhibition plans and furniture design. Follow a project from concept to production through all steps of design and installation process. Develop installation schedules related to special exhibitions and permanent collections as they pertain to staff hours, work assignments, timing of various phases of activities, and integration with collection activities. Implement museum standards in concert with Conservation department. Determine use and selection of outside contractors for specialized needs such as design, construction, and art handling outsourcing. Reviews work to maintain adherence to museum standards. Collaborate with outside designers, architects, and engineers on building and special exhibition projects, including the designing exhibition furniture, lighting systems, and exhibition AV equipment. Manage outsourced production of mockups, finalize prototype development, and monitor outsourced fabrication for quality control and timely delivery. Researches and maintains knowledge of new developments in methods in museum field. Assist the Head of Installation in the preparation of budgets related to installation projects. 13.Perform other duties as required to achieve installation project and design objectives.   Essential Duties:   1. Carries out registrarial activities to maintain the collection, incoming and outgoing loans and to ensure the special care, security, and proper handling. 2. Coordinates with curatorial, conservation, exhibition, and collections departments for the successful completion of handling, packing, shipping & insurance, storage, installations, and exhibitions. 3. Oversees incoming and out-going long-term loan program related to the permanent collection. 4. Inventories collections and documentation; edits or amends the museum’s database following guidelines and museum standards. 5. Responds to collections inquiries by researching the history of ownership and origin of collections. 6. Manages budget for inventory, packing/unpacking, move and organization of collections, including product research, purchasing, and funds management. 7. Develops and implements handling and packing strategies to ensure safety and legal standards of collections in transit. 8. Ensures legal, ethical, and professional standards for the collection by reviewing paperwork, advising staff, and addressing Museum policies and procedures as needed. 9. Fully or partially supervises a staff of non-exempt employees, students and volunteers. 10. May perform other duties as assigned.   Required Education and Experience:   Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Anthropology, Archeology, Museum Studies, or related field and three years of collection management and/or registration experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.   Required Skill/Ability 1:   Proven knowledge of rendering applications including Rhino3D and the Adobe suite.   Required Skill/Ability 2:   Well-developed decision-making, planning, organizational, problem-resolution and leadership skills. Proven ability to work well with staff at all levels at the university, as well as external contractors.   Required Skill/Ability 3:   Demonstrated ability to manage people on a day-to-day basis and inspire a high level of commitment and performance.   Required Skill/Ability 4:   Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources effectively, measure and monitor progress and redirect efforts as needed. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet competing deadlines.   Required Skill/Ability 5:   Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to negotiate skillfully with both internal and external constituents.   Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:   B.A. in Art, Architecture, Design, or Art History. 3-5 years of experience managing. museum exhibition production and/or installation.
