Old/New Threads is available for booking.
Old/New Threads is a traveling exhibition that explores the relationship between textile art, economic empowerment, and community building through Stitch Buffalo, a textile arts center in Buffalo, New York.
Developed by the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University in collaboration with Stitch Buffalo, Old/New Threads features a mix of traditional and contemporary textile art. Each work is created by refugee and immigrant women artists from various communities in Buffalo including Karen, Bhutanese Nepali, Kachin, Afghan, Pakistani, and more. Artwork is complemented by interpretive content, artwork labels, artist quotes, and more.
This exhibition also tells the story of Stitch Buffalo through its interpretative materials, including its growth from a grassroots initiative into a major textile arts center.
Old/New Threads encourages visitors to consider the story behind every stitch, every weave, and every knot—and to support local arts and culture initiatives in their community.
