Postgraduate Research Associate in Prints and Drawings – Curatorial Division, Yale Center for British Art

The Postgraduate Research Associate in the Prints and Drawings department is a full-time, one-year position, intended for individuals with a BA or MA in art history or a related field who are seeking to gain curatorial experience. The Yale Center for British Art houses the largest collection of British art outside the United Kingdom, encompassing works from the fifteenth century to the present in a range of media. The museum offers a vibrant, year-round program of events and exhibitions in person and online. Salary: $43,920, a competitive benefits package, including health insurance; funding for professional development, and a relocation stipend.

Position focus and training:

The Research Associate position provides the opportunity to gain firsthand experience and professional training in curatorial work, specializing in works of art on paper. The postholder will be fully integrated into the department and will contribute significantly to exhibition planning, research, organization, and installation as well as other departmental activities. They will be trained in cataloging and handling of works on paper and in provenance research. The Postgraduate Research Associate will undertake research on works in the permanent collection and will gain training in acquisitions and collections development. The postholder will participate in the development of upcoming exhibition projects including William Blake; the origins and history of the mezzotint engraving technique; the Trinidadian artist Michel Jean Cazabon; and British pastels.

Mentoring:

The postholder will be a member of the museum’s Prints and Drawing department and will interact with colleagues throughout the museum. They will have the opportunity to organize a study day, workshop, or symposium with the Research department. The postholder will also participate in the Fellows Forum, an informal professional-development platform for associates and fellows across the Yale Center for British Art and the Yale University Art Gallery.

Qualifications: 

Applicants need a BA or MA in art history or a related field. Applicants should not have a PhD. A demonstrated interest in works on paper is preferred.
