Position Description
The Stage Lighting Supervisor leads all aspects of stage production lighting for productions or special events, and supervises the stage lighting technicians in load-in, setups, rehearsals, performances, strike, and load-outs. This is a “hands-on” supervisory position that will require varied hours in an environment subject to change. The Stage Lighting Supervisor can be expected to operate the Center’s production lighting console during performances and special events. The Stage Lighting Supervisor must have a commitment to excellent theatrical show production values with a focus on safety.
Minimum Requirements
A Bachelor degree in PR, Communications or similar.
Prefer 10 years of experience in the performing arts, special events, concerts, or entertainment industry with a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Stage Lighting Supervisor.
Experience in a variety of stage productions including: orchestras, dance, opera, drama, concerts, special events, and corporate events.
Extensive experience with current entertainment industry lighting control technology and moving light fixtures.
Preferred experience with a GrandMA2.
Proficiency in configuring network systems used by stage lighting control systems.
Ability to read and understand theatrical and production lighting designs.
Supervisory and training skills.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to work under pressure.
Excellent spoken and written English.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft office: Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Required to work at heights from elevating work platforms, ladders, catwalks, and lighting trusses.
International stage production touring experience is an advantage.
Will occasionally need to lift and/or move equipment weighing up to 20 kg.
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for implementing the theatrical lighting design for a production, special event, or activity.
Plans and implements the cabling of theatrical lighting fixtures and power distribution.
Properly documents for all theater production circuiting, dimming, addressing, and system configuration.
Prepares a weekly lighting technician roster to ensure stage production needs are met.
Reviews show/production/event information in advance and advises of any necessary changes.
Operates the stage lighting console and other theatrical lighting equipment.
Troubleshoots and finds solutions to problems with common theatrical lighting equipment.
Assists with the theatrical lighting equipment maintenance schedule.
Maintains inventory control of all theatrical stage lighting equipment and consumables.
Participates in special projects including offsite productions.
May be called upon to act as the Lighting Designer for certain Center special events or productions.
Maintains a safe and efficient workplace for all staff.
Participates in all company required training classes.
Attends regular staff meetings as required.
Assists with additional production needs as necessary.
