Position Description:
This position reports to the Director of the Institute for Research in Art and works directly with the Deputy Director of the USF Contemporary Art Museum and other museum staff to research and curate leading-edge temporary exhibitions and related educational programs that further the USF Contemporary Art Museum’s mission to address critical global and cultural issues and contribute to the dialog within the international arts community. The Curator-at-Large will be responsible for establishing an international network of artists, curators and art museums; researching and developing innovative concepts for temporary exhibitions. The Curator-at-Large will work with the Curator of Education to design panels, symposia and lectures. Other responsibilities include writing proposals for grants to support exhibitions and related programs and assisting with fundraising goals. The Curator-at-Large writes, edits and assists in the production of relevant catalogues and museum publications for distribution at the museum, on websites and other social networks. The Curator-at-Large will be responsible for developing relationships and engaging artists, faculty, students, and the broader community.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in art history, art studio practice or museum studies from an accredited institution with a demonstrated record of academic research achievement, or professional qualifications which would be equivalent to the highest degree as demonstrated by a minimum of ten years of professional experience as a curator in the field of contemporary art. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Research Associate.
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent oral and written communication skills including social media strategies and a publication record. Extensive knowledge of contemporary art with a focus on Latin America and established international network of artists, scholars, curators, gallerists and arts professionals. Multilingual candidates preferred. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, deadlines and follow through. The desire and ability to work in a collaborative environment with artists, faculty, staff and students. Innovative curatorial approaches to integration of the arts with other disciplines including social practices, and the sciences.
